Education and Outreach

Alongside every show we produce we have an exciting, dynamic outreach program to make our work more accessible to audiences of all ages. Our outreach program is interactive, fun and allows us to bridge the gap between the company and audience. There are many ways that you can extend your theatrical experience with us, as outlined below.

Q&A and Post Show Discussions

At certain performances, students can attend a pre-show lecture, discuss the performance and have their questions answered by our cast and crew.

Workshops

We are able to cater to your requirements and preferences as a school/group. As a professional theatre company, we have access to some of the best facilitators, performers and teachers in the field.

We can offer weekly courses or one-off workshops and some of the options we have previously offered are:

  • Production-based Workshop – We will provide a workshop that compliments the learning outcomes and themes of the show your students have seen.
  • Introduction to Drama – Suitable for all ages, this workshop will introduce character, improvisation and text work.
  • Themed Drama – Classes will be based around a theme of your choice, perhaps relevant to the curriculum or your local community.
  • Production - We will plan and prepare a full production, from rehearsal to design and direction.
  • Musical Theatre - A mixture of Acting, Song and Movement.
  • Rock School – These classes require access to the school’s musical instruments and also require students with musical instrument experience. Non-instrumentalists can chose to be vocalists.
  • LAMDA Examinations - We can prepare students for all solo, duologue and group subjects on the LAMDA syllabus which includes Acting, Verse and Prose and Public Speaking, among others.
  • Debating – Students will be coached on writing and delivering speeches and the different roles in a debating team.
  • Song Writing – Suitable for those with or without previous musical knowledge. The class will focus on song structure, lyric writing and chord progressions.
  • Screen/Playwriting – Classes can be focussed on adapting novels or developing scripts from scratch.
  • Theatre Factory –  a workshop experience for young people to discover first-hand the inner workings of a theatrical production. (Please see Theatre Factory page for more information)

Education Packs

As Selladoor productions are aimed at young people, we provide free Education Packs for each show. These packs include classroom exercises, lesson plans and curriculum links for the appropriate Key Stage.

Backstage Tours

At certain performances, students and school groups can be given a guided tour behind, below and above the stage to see the workings that go on ‘behind the scenes’. Usually our backstage tours are led by stage management, but we can organise directors or designers to be involved in back stage tours on occasion.

Internships at Sell a Door

On occasion, we have offered students or undergraduates an opportunity to intern at the company between four and twelve weeks. As a touring theatre company, these placements are usually based between our office in Greenwich, the rehearsal room and on occasion, on tour with the company.

To make enquires about any of our workshops, Q&A’s, internships or Education work please email education@selladoor.com for a full consultation and pricing guide.
