Footloose: The Musical

Gareth Gates

Gareth rose to fame through the inaugural Pop Idol in 2001/2. He became a household name in the most memorable of these finals and much-remembered Will vs Gareth contest! He went on to sell over five million records worldwide and have hits across the globe. His version of ‘Unchained Melody’ sold over a million copies in the UK and is the third best-selling single of the 2000s, whilst ‘Anyone of Us’ was a hit across the world. He is also the youngest-ever male solo artist to debut at number one.

More recently, Gareth has had a hugely enjoyable and successful career in musicals (Les Miserables, Legally Blonde and Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, to name but a few). In 2014, he picked up his skates again to appear in the TV series of Dancing on Ice. This finale brought back show winners and viewers’ favourites to compete for one last time! As if that wasn’t enough, he also found the time to join a band and become part of the second series of The Big Reunion in the boy band Fifth Story. Autumn 2014 saw The Big Reunion Boy Band tour bus hitting the cities across the UK and Ireland for an arena tour, with Blue, 5ive, Damage, 3T and many more! Gareth followed this up by taking a completely different show on the road, with his acoustic band set-up playing past hits and new songs, and himself playing the piano.

2015 saw him play many different live shows in many guises – his own acoustic theatre shows, a fully live band for a string of dates for Haven and, in the autumn, a tour for the 10th anniversary of Mad About the Musicals.

Other credits include: Eddie in Loserville (West Yorkshire Playhouse); Robbie in Soho Cinders; Cain in Children of Eden (Prince of Wales Theatre) and the original cast recording of the Three Little Pigs by Stiles and Drewe.
